Digital X-Rays

Our Lincoln Dentist Uses the Latest Digital X-Ray Technology

For nearly two decades, Dr. Rebecca Sowers and her team at West Gate Dental have been providing a comprehensive range of general, cosmetic, and restorative dental treatments to families living in the Lincoln, NE area. West Gate Dental strives to provide our patients with comfortable and efficient dental care with the use of state-of-the-art technology, like digital X-rays. We use these X-rays to safely and accurately detect dental problems in their early stages that may otherwise go undetected to save you time, money, unnecessary discomfort, and even your teeth!

An Important Part of Dental Diagnosis & Treatment

West Gate Dental and Dr. Sowers may choose to use a digital X-ray to evaluate the following:

  • Find tooth decay
  • Examine the tooth roots
  • Check the health of the supporting bone around the teeth
  • Look for any signs of periodontal disease
  • See the status of developing teeth

Dr. Sowers can also use the images produced to look for bone loss due to periodontal disease and to find hidden tartar buildup on the teeth. If she does detect hidden tartar on your digital X-rays, she may recommend an enhanced oral hygiene routine that will help improve your overall oral health.

How We Take Digital X-Rays

The technique involved with having a digital X-ray taken is simple. A small electronic sensor is placed in your mouth to capture a digital image that is instantly sent to a chairside computer monitor for Dr. Sowers to review. The image can be rotated and enlarged to help Dr. Sowers detect problems more easily.

More Advantageous Than Traditional X-Rays

While standard X-rays have proven to be invaluable in preventing patient suffering and in saving many teeth, the new and improved digital X-rays have made the technology safer and more beneficial. Perhaps the most important benefit is the fact that radiation exposure is reduced by up to 90% with digital X-rays. Other advantages to using digital X-rays include:

  • Images can be viewed instantly for faster treatment.
  • The clear and sharp images provide color contrast, making them easier to read than film-processed images.
  • The images can be enhanced in several ways for better detection of problems.
  • The digital X-ray images can be compared to your previous X-rays on-screen so Dr. Sowers can detect even the tiniest changes to your tooth structure.
  • You can view the images for a better understanding of your dental health.
  • The technology is more environmentally responsible with no polluting photo chemicals or film used.
  • Your dental visits will take less time, plus it’s fun to watch how digital X-rays work!
